At 2:40pm PF&R crews were dispatched to a commercial fire at Open Meadows High School (7654 N Crawford). Crews arrived to find smoke pouring from multiple floors. Firefighters commented on the difficulty of locating the fire and the rapid travel of fire due to the older construction type and building codes of the converted three story Victorian home. All 110 students had been evacuated by school staff and there are no reports of injuries to students or staff. There was a functioning sprinkler system in the building but it was not able to contain the fire from spreading to multiple floors. The fire is out, fire investigators have determined damage to the house at just under $50,000 and the cause is listed as "undetermined" at this time.
