Southeast Portland fire crews responded to a residential fire this afternoon?"initial reports indicate the fire started on an exterior porch and spread to the interior of the building.

Firefighters from Woodstock Fire Station 25 arrived first to the scene and immediately assumed fire attack. Next arriving fire companies completed a thorough search of the homes interior, ventilated the home to remove smoke, and located the seat of the fire. The fire was extinguished with the damage isolated to the buildings exterior. Additional crews were returned to available status while the first due companies remained on scene to complete post fire salvage and overhaul.

Although the resident believes the fire was started my a discarded cigarette, a fire investigator has been dispatched to the scene to confirm or otherwise determine the origin and cause of the fire and to complete preliminary damage estimates.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians are reported as a result of this fire.
